Stay Puller (스테이플러)

Stay Puller was in the Kpoppin’ studio for Be My Super Rookie with DJ Isak. Stay Puller (스테이플러) is a co-ed Indie group that debuted in 2017 under Mindmill Ent.

Tidbits::
– In his free time Hyunsang like to go out and see the sights since he hasn’t been on Jeju Island very long. He came down to Jeju and about 4 months later he joined Stay Puller.
– They’ve been about year that they’ve been a band.
– Stay Puller is a local Jeju Island band.
– The Leader, Shinik, is from Jeju then he moved to Seoul, and came back to Jeju and was thinking about his existence in Jeju. “Yhy did I come back?” is a question he often thought about.
– Their group chat is only for work.
– Two members live on the other side of the island from the other members.
– If something happens to the vocalist can Jiho take over, according to the other members he sings along during practices so he knows the lyrics and he has a nice voice.
– Shinik chose all the members himself.
– They don’t spend much time together outside of work, because they don’t live close enough together.
– Suhyun thinks the is something charming about Cellos.
– Shinik would like to try bass if he were born again.

Q & A::
Q: Have you ever had writers block?
A: Shinik feels like he’s in a bit of a slump right now, because the lyrics for one of the songs he is working on for their next album is evading him. The music is ready but the lyrics aren’t coming to him.

Q: What is one thing you like the most about Jeju?
A: Shinik – going up to Halla-san Mountain the winter time.
Hyunsang – bicycling on Udo Island.

Q: Future plans?
A: They will be part of Arirang Radios open mic performances. They hope to have their next album out before the year is over.

The Rose (더로즈)

[A/N:: I apologize that the summary isn’t up to my normal standard. The audio on my Arirang Radio kept going out, and I missed big sections of the interview. However, I summarized what I did get to hear.]

The Rose were in the SoundK studio for You Who Came from the Stars with DJ Leah. The Rose (더로즈) is a boy and that debuted 2017 under J & Star Company (제이엔스타컴파니).

Tidbits::
– They came into the company as an already formed band.
– In elementary school Jaehyung decided he wanted to be a Jeff so that is his English name.
– Dojoon’s English name is Leo.
– Hajoon’s English name is Dylan which was given to him by the fans.
– Woosung was on Kpop Star season 1, and his English name is Sammy.
– Dojoon, Hajoon, Jaehyung were previously in a group called Windfall.
– There was a time they were all trainees in different companies.
– They go the Internet cafes all the time. DJ Leah didn’t understand why people do go to Internet cafes. They guys said it’s a guy thing.

Q: Where did the group name come from?
A: Their group name was given to them by their company. Roses have both beauty and thrones, they can show both sides with their music.

Q: What are your individual rose colors? What do they mean?
A: Dojoon – blue = mystery
Hajoon – white = pure
Jaehyung – pink = happiness
Woosung – red = passionate and fashionable

Glen Check (글렌체크)

Glen Check was in the SuperKpop studio for Kpop Rising with DJ Sam. Glen Check (글렌체크) debuted in 2011, and they are currently under Beast and Natives (비스츠앤네이티브스).

Members::
Joonwon (김준원) – Vocalist, Guitarist
Hyukjoon (강혁준) – Bassist, Synthesizer, Electronics

Tidbits::
– Joonwon, and Hyukjoon are both fluent in English.
– Joonwon lived in Japan, France, and lived in the USA for a while while growing up.
– Hyukjoon lived in the USA for 6 years in the past.
– In the past they have been known as a Synth-Pop group, but they feel that’s inaccurate because that was based only on their first album.
– ‘Follow the White Rabbit,’ is actually about the beginning of Alice in wonderland when Alice follows the white rabbit. This song is only available on CD and MV. They wanted to something to start an adventure, and this seemed like a nice way to do that.
– Most of their songs are in English because English is the most natural to them when they are writing.
– They get stuck all the time when writing. To get past it they try to fight it out with the music until it comes to them, and sometimes they step away and go out and drink, listen to other DJs play music.
– They are both working on solo albums.

Q & A::
Q: What is the meaning behind glen check?
A: To be honest there is no meaning. They came a cross the word “glen check” in one of Joonwon’s fashion book, which is the name of a type of checkered pattern.

Q: What can you tell us about your new album?
A: The new album’s structure was based on the way George Lucas and other famous writers wrote. It’s a adventure story, with a plot, climax, and ending. They were inspired by tech, modern R&B, and other sounds. They wanted to surprises people with a new sound.

DayDay (데이데이)

DayDay was in the Kpoppin’ studio for Be My Super Star with DJ Isak. DayDay (데이데이) debuted in and is currently independent, and not under a label.

Tidbits::
– His real name is David Kim (김데이빗), and he does answer to both DayDay and David.
– DayDay is short for “All day everyday.”
– He has received lots of help from AOMG for this album.
– DayDay started focusing on the music scene when he was 21.
– He has worked on song for others. He started writing melody for people in the industry for people he knew.
– DayDay participated in show me the money for two seasons 4 &5.
– From start to finish this album took about 2 years to put the six songs together. He choose as the ultimate lead single with the assistance of Gray.
– DayDay would like Kilogram to call when he goes to eat?
– He is not the type to go through his phone and call people out.
– He says he can’t say no to people who are nice to him.
– DayDay is the type that if you show him love, he’ll show you twice as much love.
– He has forgotten the lyrics on stage. He biggest oops moment was when he completely forget his rap for his last show me the money performance.
– DayDay’s favorite day of the week is Thursday.

Q: Can you tell us about ‘Better Days’?
A: Better Days is about where he is now in his life. It is saying that it’s not about becoming famous, but it’s about how it’s time to buckle down and hustle. Better Days are coming because he has already had his trails and tribulations.

Q: What albums have had the most impact on your life and career, of there is one?
A: Snoop Dogg’s debut album, Seo Taeji’s (서태지) 4th album, & H.O.T’s first album.

Samuel (사무엘)

Samuel was in the SoundK studio for You Who Came from the Stars with DJ Leah. Samuel (사무엘) debuted in 2015 as a member of 1Punch (원펀츠). He made his solo debut in 2017 under Brave Entertainment.

Tidbits::
– He was set to debut with Seventeen before he dropped out.
– He participated in Produce 101 season 2.
– Samuel is Korean-American fluent in English.
– His fanclub members are called Garnets (a type of flower arrangement).
– He dreams of being the Korean Chris Brown. Some people call him the Korean Jaden Smith.
– ‘Sixteen’ was written and recorded in the two weeks after he was kicked off the show. The other songs were recorded long ago.
– He was not allowed to use cellphones while on the show, and they were not allowed to eat fattening snacks regular. They wanted them to be skinny.
– He accidentally hit a fan while performing, and apologized and hugged her.

Q & A::
Q: Would you rather be called a boy or a man?
A: Right now he’d rather be called a boy. Being a man is too much pressure right now.

Q: Why did you decide to go out for Produce 101?
A: He participated in Produce 101 season 2 to show everyone what he could bring to the industry.

Q: What was it like working with Chungha?
A: He got closer to Chungha while practicing their choreography for their song Everyday. He was shy with her because he held her hand while dancing. He got really red in the face and when she asked him why he played it off like it was just really hot in the room.

Choi Jaewoo (최재우) & Ju Wontak (주원탁)

Choi Jaewoo and Ju Wontak were in the SoundK studio for You Who Came from the Stars with DJ Leah. Choi Jaewoo (최재우) isn’t under a company yet. Ju Wontak (주원탁) is under 2able Company.

Tidbits::
– They have both participated in the survival show Produce 101 season 2.
– Jaewoo likes playing with cats.
– Wontak likes skating and bowling.
– Jaewoo’s group Monsae did a performance, but it was never aired. He feels that upset him .
– Jaewoo went two weeks with little sleep around the start of the show, and was starting to want to go home. Then they didn’t call his name, and he thought “Oh I’m going home?” Then he was a bit depressed.
– Wontak & Jaewoo get together often because Wontak’s company and Jaewoo’s study room are close together.
– Jaewoo got into piano because he was really into fashion, and like this green piano bag that he saw.
– Wontak’s nicknames are Mirror Prince, & Celebrity. Mirror Prince, because he always stops to look in the mirror whenever he is near one.
– Jaewoo’s nickname is Tigger.
– Wontak is the #parttimeking, because he has had a lot of different part-time jobs.
– Jaewoo has #insomnia, and he frequently goes without sleep.
– Jaewoo has recently gotten into playing a very scary game, and now thinks ghost are on the other side of his door.
– Wontak has trained his metabolism.

Q: What gave you been doing since being on Produce 101 season 2?
A: Ju Wontak – Since the show he has been traveling around Korea and has already had a fan meeting.
Jaewoo – He doesn’t yet have a company. He practices everyday at an academy study room.

Q: Can you tell us about Baby Goodnight?
A: It is a fan song that wrote Wontak the lyrics for.
